I am an evolutionary biologist and my investigation area is mainly focused on the adaptation of animal body structures, with particular attention to functional trade-offs and biomechanical constrains. At the moment I am enrolled at the University of Porto where I am developing my PhD thesis entitled "The effects of an evolutionary trade-off on scorpion diversity and feeding ecology". The aim of the thesis is to understand the basis of morphological differences between scorpions with stout and slender pincers. I will use a multidisciplinary approach including, kinematic analysis, force measurements, digital dissections through the reconstruction of micro-CT scans, physiology and transcriptomics. I will also attempt to see the consequences of the differences of such structures to scorpion feeding ecology. To do so I am developing a protocol to analyse gut content of scorpions through metabarcoding approach. I have open collaboration with the Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable, Montevideo, (Uruguay) and the University of Ibagué (Colombia).
