I did my graduation in Biology and Geology at University of Minho (2008-2011) where I have been involved in a project related to communication of science. In 2011 I started my master degree in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution at University of Porto/CIBIO, where I started my research activities and where I am developing a master thesis that, in short, focuses on evolutionary and biogeographical patterns of North African hedgehogs of genus Atelerix and Paraechinus, in order to understand phylogenetic relationship between three African hedgehogs species (Atelerix albiventris, Atelerix algirus and Paraechinus aethiopicus) and relate it with spatial patterns of biological diversity. It is expected that hedgehogs may exhibit differentiation caused by barriers such as the Sahara desert and its mountains, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Niger River basin that prevent gene flow. This type of research is of utmost importance since there is a great lack of knowledge on biodiversity existing in North of Africa.
